DePuy Hip Implant Recall
Damages to the hip occur due to regular wear and tear or as a result of disease, accident or injury. Hip replacement surgery is supposed to be the best and longest lasting remedial tactic. People go for hip surgery to reduce the pain and improve mobility so they can continue with their lives without added problems. The DePuy ASR hip was implanted in thousands of patients, but many patients came back with recurring hip problems within a short period of time.DePuy Orthopaedics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, is recalling its ASR hip replacement systems because of a high rate of repeat surgeries required by those who have received the parts.
Affected hip replacement parts involved in the recall include the DePuy ASR XL Acetabular System and the DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing System. Patients who reported problems in the first five years and had revision surgery reported symptoms of:
Pain;
Swelling;
Problems walking;
Loosening, when the implant doesn’t stay attached to the bone in the correct position;
Fracture, where the bone around the implant may have broken;
Dislocation, where the two parts of the implant that move against each other are no longer aligned; and
Metal Debris, where metal particles from the component parts moving together spread around the hip area.
If you are unsure of the type of hip device implanted, but have had revision surgery, or are experiencing hip pain, hip swelling, or difficulty walking since an implant, we would like to review your case.
